When I first started using Arbonne on my skin, I never imagined that a skin product would give me back control of my life and remind me of my answer to that lifelong question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Remember that question? Well, I always knew the answer. All I ever wanted to be was happy. I didn't care what I did or who I was with. I just wanted to be happy with whatever I was doing and be happy with whoever I was with.

But, I have always felt that someone else was in control of my life, of my destiny. I have worked hard, always for someone else, to fulfill my dream of happiness. 

In the 1970's I wanted to become a police officer. I applied at several locations and was accepted at the Detroit Police Department. I worked hard. I can't say I was the best cop, but I know I was a good one and I was happy with my job. After all I went through to be accepted, then attending the academy and surviving my rookie year, the newly elected Mayor of Detroit laid us all off. Someone else had taken away my dream; someone else was controlling my future.

In the 1980's I began working at a television station. The people there thought it was fun having a former police officer around. I still planned on returning to the Detroit Police Department when I was called back from lay-off. In the meantime, I worked hard at WDIV, learning all that I could. I returned to school and worked my tail off. Oh! I was happy and loved my job. When ratings were good we all flew high. When they took a dive, the management at the station and the entire non-union staff at the station were sent packing. Again someone else was controlling my destiny.

I stayed in TV, however. I worked freelance for awhile then picked up a job as the Program Coordinator at the Catholic Television Network of Detroit. Once again I'd found a job I did well and loved doing.  I had recently remarried and was happily living the American Dream; so I thought.

In 1995, my life changed forever in the blink of an eye. Friday, June 16, 1995, at 8:08 pm my happiness was completely shattered. My wonderful new husband, Greg, was struck by a jet ski as he walked in the water at a Michigan park. He sustained a traumatic brain injury and the doctors didn't expect him to live through the first night after the accident. He did. I remember praying, while Greg was in a coma, that if He would only allow Greg to keep his sense of humor, we would be able to make it through whatever lay ahead for us. 

The doctors and nurses touched my shoulder and shook their heads. But, Greg did wake up and he held onto his sense of humor. Our life has been rough. Greg has needed 100% assistance since his accident. We are making the most of life and our happiness has come back to us.

However, we are financially challenged. I didn't want to leave Greg to strangers for long periods of time. Although I worked hard every day caring for Greg, I wasn't making an income. 

In 1999, we moved to Florida. Michigan winters are hard on everyone, but a 187 pound man in a wheelchair and a 135 pound woman managing alone made the winters nearly impossible. In 2001, I returned to school and got my massage license and became nationally certified the same year. I specialized in CranioSacral Therapy.
